GM Film at Comstock Sunday
When I was at Comstock, Ferre & Company the other day, I saw a notice about a film screening they're having on Sunday, the 21st of April, . The title is Seeds of Death: Unveiling the Lies of GMOs.
Comstock (now one of Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds' stores) is located at 263 Main Street, Wethersfield, CT 06109. You can call them at: 860-571-6590 or email sales@comstockferre.com
(I'm not even sure if I'll be able to make it, but I thought I should publicize it, anyway.)

How the world lives.
Today here in the UK we have major news items that many eminent agri scientists are asking the government to legislate for a greater range of GM crops to be sown by farmers as the trials are complete and showing massive benefits .
They are also asking permission to sow them as soon as possible without restrictions.

I wonder how much time they have allowed to prove that there are no long-term disadvantages?

And that m'dear is the problem I have with the trangenic foods.
I am not anti-GMO per se, however I am anti putting minimally researched genetic manipulations into the food chain.
I would be a whole lot more comfortable with it if the companies that are producing these seeds did not work so very hard to prevent independent research.

The UK has been exploring the GM of crops for at least 35 yrs to my knowledge at and around The Cambridge Science parks in the UK.
The first outside the lab crops were for Canola oil ( Oil Seed Rape )around 1983 .
For various reasons certain mindset groups decided they were not going to allow such testing to take place many people got arrested for destroying crops .
As far back as 1989 it was a news item that the Canola plant had been modified to produce a white flower to identify it and that modified plant could flower almost all year round . Apparently this was a plus for GM for it was to be used to produce oil and animal feed . The oil was further modified for use as vehicle fuel which was an original aim of this GM'ing it as the worlds major oil supplies were at the time in the hands of a few unstable countries ( nothing changes does it ??/ )
One bonus for people in the locality of the trialled crops with bee hives once the bigger un netted field trials were being done was that there were massive nectar flows and some good honey even if it did go as hard as rock .
I used to run the local honey cooperative hoeny collection point and had dozens and dozens of 45 gallon barrels of it to send to Nestle etc.
You'd have thought that some form of identifiable problem would have been inextorably linked to the use of the honey or porducts off the GM rape for the last 25 years if there was one . I say this as milions of people will have consumed it as kids , youths , adults parents & grand parents.
Just how long a period is required to say any food is safe let alone GM based foods ?
I have fairly regular personal & internet contact with all sorts of highly qualified and practicing scientists & biologists , some of whom are professors in big university research establishments .
When I started to understand the checks and precautions they have done independant of the GM interests in the name of food safety I can say I'm quite happy to eat any GM food ( meat , veg , fruit , flsh or fowl etc ) that was designed as an edible food if it came out of the UK stable .
