Semi-new gardener in upstate NY

Hello everyone! I've been lurking around the forum and have posted a couple of times, but haven't really introduced myself.

My name's Julie and I'm 25! I have a small house in a small city in the most western part of NY (aka the Southern Tier). We have long, cold, snowy winters and pretty short growing seasons, but that hasn't stopped me from trying yet.

I've been trying to grow vegetables in my garden for the last three years, and every year, it just turns out badly. This year I decided to do something different! I got the SFG book and I'm hooked already. I have just about everything I need to make the boxes, and I can't wait for everything to start warming up!

I hope I can show you all my beautiful SFG garden when it gets going!

You certainly get an 'A' for perseverance! You might keep your eyes open on the forum for ideas on how to enclose your boxes to extend your growing season a bit. Have fun!

I know how you feel! I had 3 years of dismal veggie attempts until I found SFG. If I can be successful in year 1 in Upstate NY (Just shy of Watertown) than so can you! It's a bit of work on the upstart but it is soooo worth every minute, every dollar because you can eat fresh salad every day throughout the summer. No more bagged salads! Good luck.

You're going to be just fine Littlesapphire! Best thing to do is to build the dome Mel shows in the book and cover it with plastic to make a little greenhouse. You'll have plenty of growing time.
