Hello from upstate NY
Hello to everyone. I was on here 2 to 3 years ago and started square foot gardening. I bought Mel's book and away I went. I couldn't find Mel's mix anywhere, so ended up ordering it. I built my boxes and planted my seeds and plants and hoped for the best. The end result of my first year were less than desirable. I am still trying to conquer this SFG, and have had better results, but still not happy. I Look forward to getting as much information from here as possible and hope to better my past performances.
Thank you, and good day

Re: Hello from upstate NY
I have had more luck with my homemade MM than with the store bought. Now that I am more settled again I am gearing up to make my own but in the meantime bought bags from Lowes. When I use the bags I add some organic fertilizer and with both I feed with fish emulsion every so often.
Before, when I was able I gathered different manures and bought some vegetable based compost and mixed them together. If you can do that you can at least use it as a top dressing as the season goes on. If you are going to plant in such a limited space, the health of your soil really matters.
