Hi I'm planning to head to Lowes today to buy the supplies and build my very first raised bed. I saw 2 options on their website:

1. Douglas-Fir $4.32
2. Redwood $10.64

Both are 2(in) x 6(in) x 8(ft)

In Mel's book, he mentioned that redwood will last the longest, should I go with the redwood? Seems like buying the redwood raised bed kit online is about the same price?

And is "pressure treated" okay for a raised bed? Is it the same as "chemically treated"?

Thanks a lot!

It's all going to come down to personal choice. If you can afford red wood, it might buy you a little more time before needing to be replaced. I personally wouldn't pay the extra for it.
As far as pressure treated wood, use the search feature at the bottom of the latest topics list on the left hand side. Do your research on it. That will be a decision only you can make. And welcome to the forum. Cool

If you're going to Lowe's, they'll have cedar too. It should be more than the fir, less than the redwood. Long lasting - good choice. Lowe's and Home Depot both have raised bed kits too.

Welcome to the site and give us pics of your progress!
