New SFG in Northern Virginia ... Help!
I don't know if I can call myself a SFG until I manage to keep something alive for more than a week. I am new to gardening, but love the simplicity of SFG, so I'm willing to give it a go. I also have a "barely yard" - probably room for a 6x1 or 6x2 on the side yard, but that's about it.
I have a starter seed kit that my mother in law gave me, one of the ones from Burpee, and I managed to follow the directions (sort of) and now have sprouts. I am nervous because I was a tad generous with the seeds, so I'm afraid I have 50 oregano plants in one section. Do you really count out 6 oregano seeds?
My question is, can my "NYC" populated starter seed sprouts be saved? Should I split them now or wait until I plant them in the garden?
I know, SFG can go right into the garden, but I had the kit before I had my SFG epiphany.
Thanks everyone!

Re: New SFG in Northern Virginia ... Help!
Hello Brownthumb,
My advice would be to using a small spoon remove the entire cell pod dirt and seedling from the constainer, then very carefully break aparet the soil DONT GRAB PLANT by the stem hold by the leaves and gently repot in a 4" container by its self.
Thats what I do and have had pretty good luck. Now when is the best time? I havent found that it really matters within a couple weeks from sprouting. There are some really good videos online just type plant propagation into your browser.

Re: New SFG in Northern Virginia ... Help!
How long have the seedlings been growing and how big are they? Is the Burpee kit one of the mini greenhouse kits? How many seedlings are growing in each cell / pot? It sounds like you need to thin out your batch of seedlings so you may consider culling some now with a small pair of scissors. Very gently, so as not to disturb the seeding in each pot you choose to keep.
