Hello from Northern Virginia!
Hello all, I am new SFGer in northern Va and have been reading so much of this site I thought I better say hello! I just finished my first SFG last week, a 4' x8' box with seeds in the ground and I've already got a few baby leaves poking up (spinach, lettuce, beets, scallions, cucumbers, and peas so far). I also transplanted three basil plants and an oregano. i got most of my seeds from Hudson Valley Seed Library which is a pretty cool site if people are looking for seed suppliers. A friend gave us a gift membership.
I am a new gardener as well so when I learned about SFG, and read Mel's book, I ran out of excuses not to start! I don't know what of my seeds will grow but it should be interesting.
Anyway here are some snaps I took while building. I tented the box soon after building since we are still getting cold nights. Statistically, our last day of frost around here is April 15 but i didn't have my act together to get started any sooner this season.
Thanks for all the help I have already received by reading and thanks in advance for inevitable questions as the season progresses!

Hi Alex.
Welcome to the forum! Lots of great folks with experienced advice here!
Your box looks great! Wise idea to get it hooped immediately.
And it's exciting that you've got stuff coming up already.
Again, welcome!

Re: Hello from Northern Virginia!
AlexR - When I lived in Fairfax City, I never put out tomatoes, peppers, cokes, and squash until Memorial Day Weekend. Cool weather crops went out the first of May. We often had night temps in the mid-upper 30s until mid May.But we also got some crazy hot days too. Course, back then I was row gardening.
