Starting plants inside question
This question is actually pertaining to next years efforts. I know they sell all these nifty plant starter things like grow lights and germination heaters. I was wondering if the same thing could not be accomplisted with a 10 gal fish tank, tank light and CAREFULLY monitored heat pad?
Like a book I'm reading says.... "The answers are always in the room, we just have to ask the question!"

Re: Starting plants inside question
There are several threads about seed starting and light setups. Yes, aquarium gro lights will work. I've seen people try to use heating pads, but most modern heating pads have an "auto off" function... You would also need to be concerned that the heating pad might be TOO hot.... I've also seen people germinate seeds on anything warm like a refrigerator, radiator, hot water heater...etc.
My understanding, and I know the experienced members will help me out with this if I've gone astray, is that the heat underneath is really more for germination (when they don't really need a lot of light) and the light comes later after they've germinated....

Yup on the heat pad for germination. off and under the lights as soon as they show their little heads. But remember lettuce needs light also to germinate.
