I live in a little town just north of Houston and have decided to try SFG again. Tried it in the early '90s, but the kids thought everything was a weed, no matter how hard I tried keeping them out of the garden. Now the kids are grown and gone, so thought I'd give it another try.
We used old RR ties the first time since we got them for nothing, but I'm thinking we'll try 5 gallon buckets this time to go around our little patio.

Welcome!
One thing I LOVE about SFG is you can tell what is a weed because it isn't where you planted it. It think of that over and over as I observe my garden, even if I don't always remember if it was a 16/9/4 square (the 1's I remember!).
Are you going to plant in the buckets? They will get hot and will break down over time. I think mine generally last about 2 years before the plastic starts to shatter. And our zones would be close to the same.
You don't want to use your RR ties?

Re: New Member Here
The RR ties broke down and what was left got carted away. Since I haven't done any gardening in years, I figured that using buckets would give me a chance to see if I really want to do this or not. If I don't like it, I'll just scatter the potting soil and toss the buckets.
If I do like it, I'll get wooden boxes built to set around my patio. In fact, I may set the boxes on top of sawhorses to raise them up to a more comfortable level for me.

Welcome! Have you read the All New SFG book yet? I used the original method too.
I have seen women looking at jewelry ads with a misty eye and one hand resting on the heart, and I only know what they're feeling because that's how I read the seed catalogs in January - Barbara Kingsolver - Animal, Vegetable, Miracle
