So while my new compost tumbler is getting started, I am in need to store-bought compost. I found one labled "cow and hummus." Question: Is that really compost and peet moss, or is that a legit true "compost" to count toward one of my five?

That counts as one. I like to keep my dollars local so I would check out any nearby dairy farms, horse boarding or small scale poultry farms for manure/compost. Also, often municipalities may compost their lawn trimmings and what not. If you have a Farmers market, chat up the farmers, they may put you in a good direction. It there are any grain or farm stores around, check out their bulletin board. Google is your friend Wink Let us know what you find! cheers

Trying to locate five different kinds of compost has never been an easy task. Partially, because I was going to garden centers and big box stores (who all sell the same kinds)and trying to find it in bags.

What I'm reading is that its okay to buy it bulk or loose, not bagged? The reason I ask and previously purchased bagged was the fear of ending up with weed seeds, other contaminents or invasive critters along for the ride.

Is the general feeling then, that its okay to buy from local farms, etc and not always bagged?
