Hi everyone,

I'm a new gardener; well not yet, but plan to do my first seeding this month in a 5 gallon bucket with holes drilled in the bottom and small pebbles for maximum drainage. I will have a raised bed and do the square foot gardening by next spring. Hopefully, I'll get some experience with my fall crops. This is the first time i'm trying this so i'm sure i'll have lots of questions for all of you.

Can't wait to get started Very Happy !

glad you\'re here I am new too! So excited that I got my new SFG book in the mail today! I started gardening this year as our new house already had a raised garden. But I plan on working on creating my SFGs through the winter so they will be ready in the spring.

I have really enjoyed following along on this forum. Lots of great stuff here.

Good luck!

Welcome, Sherry! You're going to love the forum. You can post questions, problems, concerns and also brag on your successes! Post pics when you get started - people love seeing what others are doing. I join with the others in recommending you get the All New Square Foot Gardening book by Mel Bartholomew before you get started making your beds.

Mel has a unique soil-less mixture to grow plants in that is really fabulous - called Mel's Mix. It's best to be sure you've read up on the method and try to get it right from the beginning. It'll save you lost of possible future problems if you'll take the time to read up on it first.

There's also an excellent post about Mel's Mix here on the forum that helps beginners get it right. It's at https://squarefoot.forumotion.com/t7451-mel-s-mix-how-strong-is-your-backbone and I highly recommend reading that, too, before you get started building your sfgs. Hope to see you around the forum!
