Potatoes - Transplanting potatoes Empty Transplanting potatoes

I apparantly missed the chapter about potatoe growing in the book and my laptop is caput...

I planted one potatoe plant per square, 4 inches deep, in 14 inchs of soil.......they have a good start and i want to move them to the bin i built. I would just rather plant beets, carrotts, horseradish and the like before constructing a second floor, kinda of a waste of soil I think, so i built a 2x2 bin. I am thinking they should transplant alright?
I have heard far too many people not pleased with potatoes the way i have them planted, and see far too many pluses to growing it in a bin that you build up as they grow and you cover them. plus the ease of digging around for baby's and using early, yum yum,.....

anyone transplant them before?

I moved mine last weekend to a bigger box and they are fine. Only one of them had sprouted at the time. That one is now about 10 inches tall and the rest are just now poking through. As a joke my husband made me a teeny tiny box it was 6 inches cubed. It came in handy this week because I was able to put it on that potato plant and bury the stem while I waited for the rest to sprout. I noticed today that all of my potatoes have now sprouted and I hope they try to catch up to the other one. I added the second level to my potato box today so now I'm ready to bury those stems again.
This is my first year to grow potatoes and pretty much everything else in my garden. Let me know how your transplant goes.

Yes, I have, out of a peat based mix. If you haven't got too much top growth and lift the whole rootball it shouldn't upset the spud much.

Potatoes seem to be pretty tough.. I've forked mine up, picked off little potatoes, and replanted and watered in well. They seem to do fine.. good luck !!
