Re: Why did you start gardening?
I grew up with a big garden and have always canned/frozen and still do. Like many I am trying to eat more healthfully; and am starting to pay more attention to the economic/environmental aspects of food. This past fall we bought a 1/4 steer and 1/2 hog from a farmer which are grass-fed, pastured, no hormones or antibiotics. i have also found a local source for pastured poultry and am now buying milk at the grocery from an in-state dairy whose cows are pastured using sustainable methods, no hormones/antibiotics and is located in the most economically disadvantaged portion of the state. Growing my own veggies is another way of extending these principles. And they taste WAY better!
