I want to plant potatoes in 5 gallon buckets. When can I plant these and how many should I put in each pail? In my research some say 4-5 potoatoes per bucket and some say only one. I have no experience at all with spuds! Our daytime temps are still in the high 50's to mid 60's. Night temps are in upper 30's and mid 40's.

I'm not sure in MN but here in NE my potates have been in since the end of March and it has been cool here too. I'm guessing you can probably plant now up there. I put a section of potato about every 4-6 inches in the totes I plant in - it's been my experience that the tubers just push each other out of the way to make more room! I'd go with the 4-5 to start with to make sure enough grow and then thin if you think it's too many.

Several sites recommend planting potatoes 2 to 4 weeks before average last frost date as they grow best in cooler weather. I would not put over 4 or 5 in a five gallon bucket.
