What questions do you think we see the most often from new to SFG gardeners?

I would guess #1 would be: Can you really grow anything in 6 inches of soil?

What are some more? I am looking for the TOP 10.

What is the spacing of (fill in blank)?

How much should I water?

I can't find all the ingredients for Mel's Mix, can I substitute (fill in blank)?

Why is it so hard to navigate around the SFG website? LOL Hi, Alan!

Partially its because they are changing a lot of things and updating but it's also because its so flash driven.

Huh, thought I wasn't paying attention were you, Boff!
Wink

By the way, we've got a new(simpler to navigate) update for the site and a new storefront (much nicer, that will be coming online soon as well)

What is this pest; what is this disease - if you are putting together a FAQ perhaps some common links?

What do I do with all the 'extra' seeds in the packet when I have finished planting my squares for the season? How do I save/store them for another year?

Do I really need more than one compost source? All I can find is (insert store purchased compost source)?

How do I build a successful composting system?

What is a wicking box?

How do I find info on natural pest and disease control?

Where do I find vermiculite?

My SFG dries out too quick.

What is the best way to store leftover seeds?

What are the basic rules of laying out my SFG?

Is there a list of plants that I can grow in my climate?

Where do I begin to learn more about gardening -- in contrast to setting up my SFG?

Is there a "Cookbook" associated with SFG?

Thinking back on my own questions from last year... here are a bunch I had, plus a few I should have asked! I'm probably forgetting a zillion of them.... Embarassed

Where can I find compost / Is my compost mix okay to use?

What should I grow? What grows in my area? Why should I consider heirloom seeds or organic planting? (P.S. IMHO, nothing is wrong with seeds from your local big box store! Also... another here: What are the typical weather patterns for my area?)

How should I lay out my boxes (companion planting / succession planting)? How does compass direction, which side of the house, shade patterns over the time of the day play into all that?

What plants need trellising or other extra support? (How do I train plants on a trellis or cage?)

I want to build a trellis. What is the least expensive way to do so? If I want to use conduit, how do I do that? When should I install the trellis?

When should I start my seeds (indoors/outdoors)? (My seedlings started indoors are leggy; what's wrong?)

How do I keep my seedlings protected when they are first set out? Critters digging in my garden / heavy rain / bugs / etc.

How do I know when to water? (How do I plan an irrigation system?)

What is this bug, and how can I stop it?

How do I know when something is ready to harvest? (How far into the fall can I stretch my growing season? When is it better to harvest soon, vs. later. Including how to recognize plants that are about to bolt.)

How much do I love SFG??? I love you rock on weeee

Here are a few more:

Are the methods from Mel's original book still considered SFG?

Where do you order your seeds?

How do you cook...greens, turnips, okra, etc.?

How do you can and preserve the harvest?

Here is some of the questions they asked:

Do you have to replace Mel's Mix each year?

What was the start up cost of a 4 x 4 SFG?

What kind of wood can you use?

How often do you water a SFG?

Do you get moles in a SFG?

What was the bottom of our Table Top SFG made of and how many drain holes did it have?
