I feel like an SFG missionary!
I was talking to my sister on the phone tonight and I asked her how the seedling was doing that my son gave her daughter(a peat pot of Chamomile) She said it was doing well but that she had also been thinking about it and she thinks she wants to plant some stuff outside this year. (She always does a bunch of herbs every year but keeps them in her kitchen window) I proceeded to talk nonstop for the next 40 minutes talking about Mel and you guys like we are all old army buddies. By the time we got off the phone we made a date for tomorrow morning to go get the $25 4x4 box at Big Lots for her and she's going to borrow my book! Yay!

Re: I feel like an SFG missionary!
Funny how that happens. I was at HD on Fri and an older couple were looking at potting soils as I was checking out composts, manures and mulch. They asked me several questions and I proceeded to take them to the corner of the store that had a raised bed set up (row style) and do a quick explanation of sfg. I then wrote down how to get to the main web site and told them to also check out the forum. SPREADING THE WORD.

Re: I feel like an SFG missionary!
This is my first year trying SFG and I have already told all the people in my office (about 15) and a few other people at the garden shop LOL. I haven't even seen the success of SFG and i'm sold. It took just a little time to set everything up (although I found it less back breaking then "sowing" the fields for row crops). But now that its set up, its so easy. I swear by it and tell everyone. I even gave my sister a SFG book this year for christmas since she kept saying how she wants a garden..and she has the PERFECT backyard. I'm preaching it too...good for you!!!!

picturing you on an overturned planter with an open SFG book in one hand, a trowel in an up-raised fist and a circle of repentant row gardeners at your feet. LOL!

Someone I told about SFGing last Summer said she's going to have her husband make the boxes for her this weekend...
She loves the idea of no weeds

Off topic a bit-- in the original post, you mentioned that Big Lots has a box for $25? That sounds interesting. Is it nice or junky?

Re: I feel like an SFG missionary!
It's not too bad. It's made of cedar 1x6's and they've already dovetailed the sides so it's just "slide-in" I made my own boxes out of 2x6's but I figured if it's only one box, why not, and I know my sis doesn't have a saw or a lot of tool know how. Wehn we got there though, she decided she wanted to get 3, which would have been $75, so I talked her into just going to Lowe's and buying wood and have me cut them down for her. So long story short(too late) : it's perfect for someone with no tools and only needs one bed.
