Re: Ever Grow Garlic?
One of them has a tear drop bulb type thing on it; hope that's ok.
That is the scape (seed head). Cut it off so the plant energy goes into the root instead of trying to reproduce itself. All my garlic has gone crazy in this cooler than usual spring. Some of them are 4" in diameter at the base of the stalk. I just hope it's not all top growth. But I won't know until next month when the tops die back and I dig them.
And to the person who pulled a garlic prematurely and just found a single bulb.
That is how garlic develops. Had you left it until the top died back it would have developed fully. I always find some that are immature. Just eat those first as they don't keep as long as the mature ones.
