34 degrees!

Hi everyone! Happy Thanksgiving! Since ,I'm new at all this gardening stuff I need some assistance!
I live in Houston. we are going to get down to 34 degrees on Friday night.

I still have plants producing! Roma tomatoes, okra, eggplant etc.. All on the vine (not ripe yet, but will be in the next week or so).

Will this this temp. hurt them? Do I need to get a garden thermal blanket?

Next week it will be 70's/60's during the day and at night 50's. Starting Dec. its going to be in the 30's in the night for a couple of weeks.

How do I winterize my garden especially if there's still stuff growing?
should I mulch?

Yes, I'd get a fleece -- it won't hurt anything at all if it doesn't actually frost on your garden, and it just might keep your garden going for a while longer.

There are a lot of variables at play here, but my cherry tomatoes survived 34 degree temps with no protection at all. Other tomato varieties suffered frost burn on their leaves at 34 degrees but continued to grow.

None of them survived 30-degree temps even when covered with a bedspread. I wish I had picked all the green tomatoes when the freeze threatened.

You can also build a "dome" tent over your 4x4 sfg, by driving a 3/8" steel rod in the ground at each corner of your sfg. Then you bend a 1/2" x 10 ft pvc pipe from one corner to its opposite corner. Where the two pvc pipes cross each other, you wrap a tie strap around the two pipes. Then you place a clear plastic approximately 12 ft x 12 ft over the two pipes, and set several bricks on the plastic to keep it from flying away. This will help to bring up the temp while the sun is out, and keep it warmer inside at night. I hope this helps. Please let us know how your plants turn out.
