Has anyone grown this? Trying to figure out what spacing to use. Hoping it'll be something my little ones will be interested in. Thanks.

2-3 feet sounds exactly like the boxes I used for my squash over the summer. Perfect!

Hi,
The picture looks similar to a plant I grew this summer. Mine was a garden berry, with a name as tall as the plant. I planted one per square. The plants grew quite tall and a little bushy, but seemed to have enough space. I did not like the taste of the berries. They were pretty dull, however the birds liked them. I also had an awful problem with flea beetles. I did not spray and the plants soldiered on. This was the first problem I have had with the flea beetle and I hope that the plant did not attract the bugs. I had minor problems with the bugs on other plants as a result. The berries are a pretty purple and I saved a bunch of the tiniest seeds. Enjoy your plant.

From what I've read, these berries are best in a pie or something like that with a bunch of sugar Wink I think that'll be a fun project with my 3 and 4 year old girls. So far the only thing from the garden that they've eaten has been the lettuce.

Hi,
My kids and I tried the berries. They did not have a lot of taste, so they were not too tart. Seemed like a lot of work for a bland return. Have you tried yard long beans. Your kids can eat a single bean for dinner. They were a hit at our house. Some folks tie the beans into pretzle shapes. Happy gardening.

Well, just in case anyone is curious about this plant I thought I'd post a picture of what they look like right now. I found out that they reseed quite easily, so I decided to plant them in the ground in the spot where one of my boxes had been, but got moved because it wasn't level enough. I put in some edging and added some compost to the soil. Having the box there for a season really cleared away the grass/weeds that had been there, lol.

I started these seeds indoors on Aug 30. I transplanted them when they were about about 6 inches tall. I kept them shaded during the heat of the day the first few days (it was in the mid 90s). That turned out to be vital as I didn't do that with another one that I tried later and it died right away.

They started flowering last week and today I examined them more closely and found that fruit had set!
