Spacing for sprawlers Empty Spacing for sprawlers

Post  desertgirl 4/25/2010, 3:51 pm

My DH has just built me a lovely two tiered SFG, which is 3 foot by 5 foot (wierd dimensions, but we have to work with the space we have).Attached will be a trellis for climbing vines. My question-I would like to plant watermelon, cucumbers, squash, zuchini. How should I plant these? Is there sufficient room for these plants, (and maybe even 2 of some, like cucumbers?).

Thanks for your help! Spacing for sprawlers Icon_smile

Assuming the trellis is on the 5' length, that would take 2 cuke plants, one watermelon and one climbing squash (each of the latter needs 2 squares). You could then plant summer bush squashes (zucchini or other) in each of the front two corner squares and allow them to fill in the rest of the bed and cascade over the sides. At least that is what I would do.

Perfect-thank you so much for the input. That is almost exactly what I was hoping to do, it is very reassuring to hear it is possible! Spacing for sprawlers Icon_smile
