The Mystery of the Disappearing Corn Silks
I came home after two weeks to a pretty decent looking garden. I even had my first ear of corn today for breakfast. Talk about sweet and tender! However, I have noticed that something chewed off silks from several of the ears.
I am wondering, they they had already pollinated, might i still get a decent ear from those?

I'm interested to see what kind of bugs are inside!
I've never seen that before. But it's OK to pull back some husk to have a peek.

Per my daughter it was the cucumber beetle that I have been finding and destroying as I find them in my corn. She apparently observed this while I was gone and did nothing. LOL.
How is it that you can leave your baby or your dog with people and expect to get them back in pretty good shape, but the garden is an absolute crapshoot?

I also found one of my ears of corn with most of the tassels gone. Looked like someone took a scissor to it. Clean and straight. I pulled back the husk to find a cucumber beetle. Arrrgggh.
