Shoda: San Leandro Garden Update July15
I found this little guy hopping around the garden while I was watering.
Cuccumber plant
Sickly broccoli...
Here's why - green aphids?
pepper plant
cherry tomato
cherry tomato flowers
zucchini flowers. Shoda, how do you hand pollinate with a brush? What does a male vs female flower look like?
Here's a couple zucchini growing - I have 3 big plants ...how many should there be per plant?
Sun scalded beet greens?
Pea flowers and pea pod.
Bush Beans - I think the little green cucumber beetle below has thinned out my harvest.
The leaves are pockmarked with bites. How many beans should a plant produce? The beans I do have are nice. They seem to go for leaves not fruit.

OH! I hate cucumber beetles, I really, really, really do.
Your plants look great!
To pollinate with a brush, you literally just stick a brush in there, wipe it around, and move on to the next flower.
A male flower has a skinny stem only. A female flower typically has what looks like a miniature fruit behind it. From what I've seen, often the male flowers come first, and the female flowers come a little later on.
How is your garden growing?? :?:
P.S. REALLY cute frog!!!

From what I understand, the biggest threat of the cucumber beetle adult is spreading disease. It that right?
Re: Shoda: San Leandro Garden Update July15
They spread bacterial wilt, which killed my cukes. Not sure what else they do.
Re: Shoda: San Leandro Garden Update July15
From what I have read you really need the big guns. The more poisonous of the sprays. Organics such as pyrethrim and perethrim, I think (the second is not organic). They are both good bug killers but pretty broad spectrum.
