My avatar is too big; it covers some of the text in the posts. I deleted it and cropped it smaller, but the photo still shows up too large. I gather from reading the Avatar forum that maybe the images look different to different users? I have seen one other avatar on here that was also large and blocking text, but no others. Does mine block text for anyone else? Anyone have a fix?

Yes, your avatar does block part of the text:
I resized my avatar to be 150 x 225 px, and it seems to fix nicely.
