Hi from Australia
Just like to say hi to everyone and thank you for letting me be on the forum. Although I have been gardening organically for over 20 years now, I am only new to SFG. Also growing a fair bit of bush tucker as well. Over the past couple of weeks I have installed 6 wicking beds and applying the principles of SFG so I'm fairly excited as we head into the warmer months. Have already read some posts here and the knowledge is phenomenal, so looking forward to learning heaps.

Glad to hear from ya, Caveman! Looking forward to seeing and hearing more about your experience and what you like to eat. Also, what are you planning?

Hi Scorpio Rising
Thanks for the welcome. Love eating almost anything from the garden and enjoy eating our fair share of seafood which we catch. Being winter, I have a few brassica's in such as cauliflower, broccoli, brussel, sprouts, cabbages, kale and also getting a good feed of citrus. Just harvested a heap of ginger and turmeric.
Moving into the warmer months I have a heap of seeds now starting to germinate in the shed under lights and on heat pads. I have just installed 6 wicking beds so keen as mud to start preparing for the warmer months. Also redesigning existing beds and applying SFG principles.

Re: Hi from Australia
Caveman, Welcome to the Forum from California, USA. I had to look up bush tuck. Warrigal greens = our New Zealand spinach. Lemon grass is gaining popularity in the US through Asian cuisine.

Hi Sanderson
Thanks. Your Warrigal Greens look magic. We collected some from the beach and planted in our front yard. We blanch them before we eat them. Lemon grass is very popular here and we use it in a lot of Asian dishes and I sometimes make it into a paste to freeze. Some of the other native foods include our native finger lime which is like a citrus caviar and goes great with seafood along with pigface which we collect from the beach and has a sweet salty taste.

Re: Hi from Australia
Gd'day Caveman, you live in a nice part of New South Wales, I was stationed at the Air Force Base, Williamtown for some years before being posted overseas.
You sound pretty well organised in regards to your veggie growing.
You mentioned 'Bush Tucker', I'm afraid I'm not game to go foraging given that I would not have a clue as to what I was picking.
Over the last few days a tragic story has unfolded on the death of three people who have died from eating Deathcap Mushrooms which they thought was edible mushrooms. It was in the Korumburra area of Gippsland in Victoria.
Anyhow, best wishes on your veggie growing project.
Cheers.

On the subject of planning, I am reminded of the quote by Sir John Harvey,Scorpio Rising wrote: Glad to hear from ya, Caveman! Looking forward to seeing and hearing more about your experience and what you like to eat. Also, what are you planning?

Planning is an unnatural process; it is much more fun to do something. The nicest thing about not planning is that failure comes as a complete surprise, rather than being preceded by a period of worry and depression.

Re: Hi from Australia
Hi mate
Yep lucky to live here. I was picking my wife up from Williamtown the other week after flying in from Brisbane and I love watching the RAAF jets taking off and landing at the end of the runway.
As far as bush tucker goes, we have some planted in our front yard, but you're 100% right about mushrooms, however there's a bit of drama around that because the person who cooked and served the mushies, didn't eat any and she is now under investigation. We grow ours in 20 L drums which is also a great space saving idea and they can be done indoors.
As far as planning goes, I always have something growing or fermenting from microgreens under lights to a range of beers, kombucha etc. Since it's warming up, I have been propagating seeds, tomatoes, corn, zucchini, squash etc to be planted out next month. We also get our fair share of seafood as well from both the ocean and the lake. These were caught down at Catherine Hill Bay (Catho) in about 3m of water the other week.

Re: Hi from Australia
When I was based at Williamtown the civilian airport was just a tin shed.
On the subject of fishing, we lived in Stockton for a short time and the fishing was excellent.
