Hello from NSW, Australia
Hello fellow gardeners,
Came here to learn and share and hopefully pick up some tips from other (NSW) growers .
Not new at growing veg but new at SFG. Also just moved area and am looking at a different climate zone and a lot less sun than in previous gardens. It’s a challenge but I’ve got stuff going already and we’re not even out of winter. I’ve invested in two raised garden beds (74cm) but still have some plants in the ground as well. Looking forward to learning lots!
Eos.

Hello Eos! Welcome to SFG (or the metric version). You will love it. Have you read any of the Mel Bartholomew books? Sounds like you have an early start—we will live vicariously off of you southern hemispherians when we are in the deep freeze!
Looking forward to hearing ore of your story!

Thanks for the warm welcome!
Thanks Scorpio. I have read the ‘All New SFG’ and have a digital copy of it, found lots of valuable information in there. Other than that, I’m a big fan of Vasili’s Gardens, he’s in Victoria, Australia. Learned a ton from him and have followed his advice almost to the letter when preparing the soil in the raised beds. I also used Hugelkultur to fill up these raised beds and it looks like it’s working .
Although a wetter than usual spring and summer is forecasted with a possible third La Nina, I still decided to put in some irrigation and opted to use the drip hose as divider for the squares. Pictures attached of the set up!
Of course I now realise I should have done a bit more research before putting in my plants but hey, enthusiasm counts, right? To my surprise just about all seeds I put in germinated. It’ll be a great surprise if it all comes to fruit as well. I’m still doubtful about the amount of sun I get in this garden.
I am now going to make a bit more work of planning (Huw Richards from Huwsgarden has some great info on that) and hopefully get into successful growing!

Hello New South Wales, this is Victoria calling.
I live in the Dandenong Ranges/Yarra Glen area which in winter gets a bit of frost.

I note you live in the Central Coast area of NSW which is a nice part of Australia.
Many years ago we lived in the Newcastle area.
Cheers.

Re: Hello from NSW, Australia
Hi John,
Totally missed your post, sorry! Yes, we’re on the Central Coast, moved down here from the Hunter Valley so we know Newcastle quite well. The Hunter is a beautiful area as well but the climate is completely different from what we experience here.
Feel for you guys in Vic. We’ve had our share of water from the heavens but I think it’s even worse at your end. Hope the veg is still growing!
