Square Foot Garden #2 and Compost
Just completed my second SFG..It's a little shorter at 3' X 4'...Had a little pomegranate bush out from it and another foot would make it hard to get my mower between...This will be mostly for herbs and my Kangarhu rhubarb crown I have on the way.. Said that one was more heat tolerant developed from an Australian rhubarb and ordered that selection from Gurneys.
And also worked up my compost..I had filled the bin to the top with leaves last spring and really didn't do much to it other than running my tiller through it when I had it out..We would throw kitchen scraps in it from time to time. The leaves had composted down about 70% and had some good looking compost started. Pretty sure it was anaerobic as there were no worms in the compost. Hopefully that will change with what I did with it.
I decided to add many more leaves to it and mixed with the compost already there. I then put 2 huge piles of greens in between a couple of layers.. Will check and turn the compost in 10 days or so..Also will be adding another bin beside this one to make more compost... I got 2.5 acres so have plenty of leaves to start a new one.

Re: Square Foot Garden #2 and Compost
Thanks sanderson...good idea with the 3 bins...just picked up wood for second bin and adding another bin want be a issue...thankssanderson wrote:A 3-bin set up is the best. Ignore the signs. Fill #1 to the top and turn the hot compost back and forth between #1 and #2. When the compost is ready to use, it goes into #3.
