OG, I'm looking forward to your results. I'm thinking of using the second sweet potato storage tote for the Yukon Golds. The problem I am having is that I can't find all of the tiny potatoes at harvest time and those sprout up among the next intentionally planted veggie. What are the dimensions of the lick tubs? H x D?

My very first homegrown beetroot! Very Happy

eggplant - What are you eating from your garden today? - Page 21 Pxl_2043

Sadly, the taste wasn't as I expected -- initially a little bland, but a slightly bitter aftertaste. (raw)  Google tells me I must have underwatered it, which I find hard to believe.  Or I pulled it out a little too early.  Will restrain myself with the second one, which is about 3 weeks younger.

Pan-roasted it was lovely and tender, and tasted better.  But I'd rather be having these raw through the summer.

Still very exciting to have finally harvested a beetroot! bounce

I have never cared for beets raw, but I love them roasted or boiled. If you are looking for a sweet beet, try a Golden Beet.

Same, I think they are less earthy (taste less like dirt, lol). I grow Touchstone.

Interesting.  The ones that grow in the shops Wink here are sweeter than carrots and I've never noticed an earthy taste.  Maybe they're a special variety that we humble home growers don't get access to...  Thanks, guys -- I'll look out for some golden seeds!

Is the variety Bull's Blood? Mine were that size. I have finally concluded that I don't like beets except commercially pickled beets.

No, they're Detroit Dark Red.  I thought maybe I should have followed the instructions, but it says you can start harvesting when golfball size, so...shrug  Maybe the second one will be nicer!

Just ate the last of my winter Butterscotch squash—2 of them.  Butter, maple syrup, and brown sugar!  Yum, they were fantastic!  I ate them all by themselves—very tasty.

So, they said in the catalog they were individually sized…true.  These guys are small.  Not a large seed area at all.  I am growing more of them next year!

The small size winter squash are good when only 1 or 2 people in the household like them. I was very happy with the prolific Small Wonder spaghetti squash from Hoss Tools.

A few more tomatoes from the Tumbling Tom tomato plants in the greenhouse. There is one red tomato, and one yellow tomato plant in hanging planters. This variety of tomato is a determinate plant, and they are nearing the end of their life. I have started a couple new plants to replace them as soon as the rest of the tomatoes are picked.

We are steadily chewing our way through last season's bounty. I try to make at least one dinner featuring winter squash each week. Australian butter pumpkin curry coconut soup is a favorite. Tonight had carrots and green onions and broccolli in a stir fry with lamb, all home grown.

Cut up one of the last Red Kuri squash from last year, and was surprised to find some of the seeds inside were starting to sprout. The squash was still delicious, though.

Harvested some Red Ruby (Rhubarb) Swiss Chard, and a couple Bok Choy today. The Swiss Chard went into the freezer for later use, and the Bok Choy was sauteed for dinner.  Some of the red cherry tomatoes photo bombed the picture, too. Very Happy

I’m basically down to preserved things, frozen pesto, strawberry freezer jam.  Sunday I made chicken with some dehydrated garlic from the garden!  I need to use up my fresh but was too lazy!

Lettuce is the only thing straight from the garden at this time. Yukon Golds up until last week when I planted the last 5 potatoes that were sprouting. Otherwise from the garden, it's canned tomatoes, sauces, and salsa, and May garlic and garlic powder, dehydrated Yukon Golds and onions. Outside the "box", are oranges and frozen ice cubes of lemon and lime juices. I can and freeze other produce, like jams, jelly, cut corn, homemade soups but they are from purchased produce.

Yes, just 1/4 slices. Stored in lemon water during the peeling and slicing process. 5 min par boil, then dehydrate.

I also made frozen hashbrowns. Lemon water, par boil only 3 minutes, ice chill and spread on a cookie sheet to pre-freeze before vacuum sealing.
