I can't believe I sent this! "We are in pis"

I meant to write that we are in Pismo and driving uo to Carmel via 1 or 101.  Well, it turned out that 1 was closed above Hearst Castle so we had to take 101.  Turned off on Carmel Valley road.  Ate late lunch at Trail __ Cafe in Carmel Valley.  Sunday we are day tripping south via 1 or 101 to Santa Barbara.  Weather is great!

Sanderson chased me down to see how I was doing (I haven't been on the site for a while)  She's a good friend Very Happy

We had a small but devastating fire about 5 miles from us on October 11th.  It was only 50 acres, but burned down 3 homes and an out building.  No humans were killed or injured, but over 100 animals lost their lives.  We are quite rural and there are a lot of people with horses, goats, chickens, dogs and more.

It came 20 ft. from a family in our church.  This is a multi-generation family where the grandparents are raising 6 of their grandchildren due to the mom's drug abuse.  They were spared, but terrified.  Our little church is rallying around those who lost everything in every way we can as is our community.

This summer was so darn hot, my garden gave up around mid-August and I didn't feel like being out in the heat myself, so I'm getting ready to rip things up, put on the greenhouse cover and sit back for the winter crops.  My seed starting in August didn't even work because it was too hot so I'm going to buy plants for the first time in a long time.

Other than that all is well.  For those that might not know, I am a professional artist.  My agents have been working overtime and doing a great job landing work, soooooo that means I'm working overtime too, lol!  I'll try to peek in more often.

I'm down to one last die hard cotton tail rabbit, that shows up and disappears quick (as a bunny). I've set the trap all around my yard, but he's managed to avoid capture. I'd like to hire a falconer to get rid of this creature. The other rodents are still robbing the last of my tomatoes. I guess I've caught all the dumb ones, so now I've got to step up my game.

Yardslave, see previous posts. Husband and I ate lunch in Carmel Valley on Sunday.

Just like the last mini-vacation, I am sick again. Shocked Count down to when the doctor's office opens.

Wednesday, I found an itty bitty green caterpillar on one leaf of a bok choy. The butterfly must had laid the eggs before the starts went under the bridal tulle.

That's what I was hoping. I've only met 2 members in person, Audrey and Seeker.

Absolutely nothing to do, today. Shocked Everything's still damp from the rain, so I don't have to water. Nothing's ready to harvest and I don't need to plant or transplant anything. My MM won't be here until next week, so I guess I'll spend the day on the couch, curled up with Mel's book and a cup of coffee. Poor me! Razz

I have 3 perfect days to harvest what's left and put the rest to bed, except for the winter garden. I'll be raking all the leaves I can before the rain starts on Thursday. I'll probably plant sugar snap peas all over the place, just in case we get a really mild winter. I'm bringing one cuke plant, one tomato plant, and that beautiful trombincino plant inside to grow under my new (pricey Shocked) full-spectrum LED lights. The plumeria and pineapple plants will have to come in this week too, but the 3 citrus babies can wait until frost threatens.

I've decided not to use the greenhouse this winter. Last year was a very labor-intensive train-wreck! California - What are you doing this month? - Page 8 671790

YIKES! I owe Mother Nature a huuuuuuuuuuuuge apology. Embarassed She knew I wanted lots of fresh leaves, so she blew them out of the trees and into nice drifts for me, and what did I do? Griped about it. Shame on me. No Mother Nature rocks! I love you

I haven't worked in the garden since I had the face treatment.  However, today I got out there after the sun moved behind the neighbor's trees.  Both totes of sweet potatoes split so I harvested them.  They were so crowded that they were showing on the top of the Mel's Mix.  This is the best I have done.  Gee, I wonder if I keep learning from this Forum? Very Happy  I sauteed a few root runts and extra starts from the winter garden for a veggie dinner.  PS: The plate is a smaller salad plate. California - What are you doing this month? - Page 8 Sweet_17

I've also been canning the frozen summer tomatoes.  22 pints of tomatoes and 3 cups of tomato sauce. California - What are you doing this month? - Page 8 Cannin10

This photo was taken around Oct 18 and shows the mass of sweet potato vines and the 9 tomato plants along the fence. I have since removed 4 plants on the right end and discovered real tomatoes on the fifth one. I already pulled the markers but they are pleated so probably Mortgage Lifter. On the remaining 4 plants, I have been pruning, leaving only clusters that have a chance to ripen by the end of November or early December. California - What are you doing this month? - Page 8 Garden10

All of the winter starts are planted and covered with bridal tulle. One bed left for sowing carrot, lettuce and radish seeds and then it will also be covered.

That's about it. Oh, I ordered the soft neck Susanville, an "improved selection of California Early"garlic, from Territorial, so I have those to plant. bounce They will have a 2'x4' bed with an overhead PVC frame, that they can stay in until ready for harvest. In the past I have had to pull them too soon to make room for summer starts. Also, there is a valve for the driplines so I won't be over watering. Last winter, we had so much rain that they rotted. They will have a tulle cover and a plastic rain coat if needed. Wink
