Hi again!

I have read several posts about the benefits of using coffee grinds on your SFG. I plan to do that first thing tomorrow!
My question is this: what is everybody's experience if and when using egg shells on their SFG?

Egg shells: beneficial or not? Empty Re: Egg shells: beneficial or not?

Egg shells do add calcium, but they seem to take forever to break down enough to provide it. I've discovered that by the time I realise I have a calcium deficiency (usually blossom end rot in tomatoes) I need a quicker acting source. I guess I need to remember to place crushed eggshells in the planting hole of tomatoes. But I always forget. Egg shells: beneficial or not? 926169

I add crushed eggshells to my compost; I have a cat litter bucket that lives in the garage where I put compostable foodstuffs and when it is full I dump it in my black trashcan compost bin. If you are a bird feeder, crushed eggshells are good for them as well. I save a container full, crush them, microwave for 6 mins (to sterilized them0 and then crush them finely to add to my birdseed mix. It strengthens the shells and helps the mama birds rebuild calcium in their bodies.

I just said in another post that I use egg shells to keep down the slugs. I collect them all year long. I crush them and sprinkle them around the plant. Slugs don't like the sharp edges and the plants leaves soon cover up the white shells.
