We are about to move into a new home we just purchased in this beautiful little north-central Florida town (he's lived here for about 5 years, she arrived from Brazil almost exactly 1 year ago).
He has zero experience gardening and she has a tiny little bit of urban gardening. One of the things we are both really excited about is beginning this adventure of gardening. SFG seems to be a great way to go.

So, we know nothing but hope to start learning. It might be a little late in the year to start a garden (we move in around mid to end of May) but we can start learning and preparing for next year.
Any pointers/tips welcome. We'll gladly teach you some Brazilian Portuguese in return Smile ....

Thank you in advance for all the great information you've already posted and that which you will share in the future.

Warm regards/abraços,
Neila & Steve

Hi Neila and Steve!
You must be excited to have a new place! I'm in central Pennsylvania, so I don't have a great grasp of Florida's climate/growing season, but I suspect you can still start a lot of warm-season plants in June and July - and cool-season vegetables after that - instead of waiting until next year.
My advice is to start small.
What vegetables do you most like to eat (i.e. what do you hope to grow?)

Hi Neila & Steve. Welcome from Atlanta, GA!

I have to agree with CN & Beetles - you can grow year-round down there. You WILL have to protect stuff in the summer from the sun. But that's easy to do with shade cloth...

Do you have a copy of the All New SFG (2nd Edition)?

I'm very excited to both of you!
