Community Gardening
I am very curious how people do Community Gardening. In India we dont have such thing... I like to know how in your country/community/colony you reside or any place doing it.
How people share box/ how they share things/seeds/ideas / any issue they face.... etc.
If you have any links/resource for doing community gardening please share.

Raj, Put the word community in the search box in upper left of page. There are several threads on community gardens.
Re: Community Gardening
Yesterday I came across a huge community garden project not far from my home. This one is the third largest site in Ottawa and was started in 1991. There are over 200 plots and about 150 gardeners. Full annual plots are 20 x 30 feet and are rototilled each year. Perennial plots are 20 x 15 ft and are maintained entirely by the gardeners renting them. They also have 4 x 12 ft raised wooden boxes. There is a waiting list of 2 to 3 years to get a plot.
City sign
This view shows about one-quarter of the area. This portion goes from the path I was on all the way to the houses in the distance.
Looking in another direction.
These "boxes" are made from 24 inch x 30 inch concrete sidewalk pavers. I would not want to be anywhere near this thing if the sides let go.

Re: Community Gardening
There are water spigots and hoses scattered throughout but it looks like they are shared among several plots.sanderson wrote:Did you notice how they water? Is there a faucet at each plot?

Re: Community Gardening
I just learned that there are 50 community garden sites in Ottawa.

The following associated website mentions SFG workshops ... in particular, "Square Foot Gardening explains the use of Mel Bartholomew’s technique to maximize your garden spaces yield. Perfect for those gardening in Community Gardens or in small planters at home."
I wonder who facilitates the SFG workshops for them? I need to find out. As far as I know there is only one Certificed SFG Instructor in my area.
