Awesome! I had no idea there were parthenocarpic squashes. Excellent info! Are they powdery mildew resistant by any chance?

I researched this and could not find any reference to them being powdery mildew resistant.  But there are many other zucchini available that are parthenocarpic so you may be able to find one that is resistant.

I have been researching how to preserve cucumbers other than pickling.  Did you know they can be frozen or dehydrated.  I think I am going to freeze some to use later in smoothies and cucumber infused water.  Also dehydrate cucumber chips with vinegar flavoring and dill.

Way too many.  I planted 4 Little Leaf pickling cucumbers in one barrel (Downy Mildew resistant).  I planted 4 County Fair pickling cucumbers in another barrel (Downy Mildew resistant).  I planted 4 Muncher slicing cucumbers in another barrel.  And then up near the house I planted 2 barrels of Persian Baby Cucumbers - 4 to a pot.  I was going to use the pickling cucumbers to make pickles but I just don't have the energy to find the right recipe and then process them.  I also planted them because they were downy mildew resistant and I wanted to see how resistant they were.  Pretty good resistance compared to the muncher and baby persian.

Got lots of winter squash growing as an experiment to see how they handle the SVB.  I have no idea how any of them are able to grow because I don't see any male flowers. All were planted on 4/28.

I love, love butternut squash. I was wondering the same thing. Do they need to be pollinated? I have one that's swelling nicely so far. The other one swelled a bit but is shriveling now. I did just read online that they are better as a fall plant but yours defy that theory. Mine was planted beginning of May.
Another promising looking female fruit is emerging and an open male flower just starting to close, so I picked it and smooshed it into the female flower. We'll see what happens.

Dang, yolos! Those plants and veggies look AMAZING, As for those cukes, I would be getting a refrigerator pickle recipe. I have no desire or adequate AC to actually process stuff in my kitchen.

Yum!

My mother used to cut up cukes and put them into her pickle jars in the fridge when the store-bought pickles were gone. They were great like that.

Critter troubles here in Brooks.  I planted my second planting of corn (Silver King this time) on 6/14.  I covered the planting with burlap to hold in moisture and keep the birds from digging the kernels up.  When the corn started sprouting, I removed the burlap.  Birds (I think it is birds) promptly attacked the patch and dug up 25% of the seeds and sprouts.  So I replanted the ones that were destroyed and put bird netting horizontally over the bed.  Birds (I assume) somehow dug up a few more sprouts.  I am guessing they landed on the netting, which bowed downwards and pulled up the sprouts looking for more seed.  So this time I replanted the whole patch (4 x 6)  built the side up about 6 inches with some 2 x 6 boards I had sitting around.  Then covered the whole patch with 1/4 inch hardware cloth and put rocks and steel posts along every inch of the sides to hold down the hardware cloth.  We shall see if that works.  The only way any critter is going to get the corn this time is if they burrow under the contraption.  I need some of TD's critter cages.  The two critter cages I built years ago are rotted out and not usable.

Good golly miss molly it is hot down here.  At 6pm Temp in the shade is 99* F.  In the sun in the garden my thermometer says 120*F. But that is as high as the temp on the gauge goes so who knows how hot it really is.  Hot and very humid.  Everything is drooping.  I am running my soaker hoses for 1 hour everyday in each bed.  I finally broke down and put the sprinkler on some of the beds that have veggies that don't normally get infected with diseases such as corn and cowpeas and sweet potatoes.

Your garden is looking really good. Are those Gilberties on the right, near the Romas? I may be a couple days late, but save some dinner for me! Wink The lazy wife trellis seems to be working.

They are either Gilberties or Opalka.  They both look identical.  I am going to do a taste test when they are fully ripe.  The only difference so far is that the Gilberties had BER and the Opalka did not.  Also, the Gilbertie is much taller than the Opalka.

Beautiful harvest and garden. Loving the beans overhead!

sanderson wrote:Your garden is looking really good.  Are those Gilberties on the right, near the Romas?

I think if I remember correctly I read that Gilberties have green shoulders?
thinking
So they could be the ones on the left. But honestly, I know nuttin...first year growing them and they are still tiny fruits.

CC is correct.  Gilberies do usually have green shoulders.  But I left these on the counter to continue ripening and I just looked at them.  Now, the ones that are fully ripe have just a small spot on the shoulder.  They are all mixed up on the counter.

Hey yolos.  I finally got a moment to sit down and look at your posts.  My goodness, you are a regular grocery store produce section!  Very nice indeed.

It has been so hot that I still have a vacant 4x4 that needs to be planted.  I was thinking Persian cucumbers, but I noticed the seed packet said not to wait too long to plant because flowers will fall off in 90 degree plus weather.  If I can manage, I will get those and some edamame in.

I really can't handle the heat lately.  I start to feel sick after just a few minutes out to apply some BT (which is working beautifully by the way).

I had a really good trimming of my plants performed by the local deer.  It happened after one of those freak heavy rains and I just was not up to going out to reapply deer repellent.  The trimming was not catastrophic though, and I immediately applied deer repellent and draped everything with netting.  Problem solved (for now).

I'm loving what you did to protect against Squash Borer.  Please keep us updated on how it turns out.

Today was Bean Harvest day.  Dragon Tongue Beans (19 cups) on the right in the red bowl and Emerite Pole Beans (15 cups) on the left in the blue bowl.  We cooked and seasoned them and then froze in Food Saver Bags.  Got 8 side dishes from all these beans.  All ready to pull out of the freezer and plop in a pot of boiling water to defrost and heat.

My Tromboncino Squash.  Largest is now 40 inches and growing.  They really look cool when you show them to someone who is admiring your garden.
2016 SFG in Brooks, Ga - Page 6 Trombo10
If they taste good I think a I might plant again next year on a cattle panel arch entering the garden.  Hanging down overhead from the arch.  Of course, I wouldn't know how to get a female that just drapes down exactly where I want it to.  And my grandson could not control himself and would probably have to swat them every time he went under the arch.
So far no SVB or squash bugs have been seen on them.   cheers
