Now What?
Hi Folks,
After pulling up lettuce that has gone past it's best by date, what should I plant in the newly opened real estate?
Thanks

I'm putting bush beans in mine...with baby lettuces to go under them later on as an experiment.

You going for seeds? If transplants, you could do a mater or pepper, depends on what you have and what you want. Swiss Chard would do well as a cut and come again green too!

How about basil? It likes the heat, is very expensive to buy in stores, and is very productive. Win/win/win.

Re: Now What?
Yesterday I planted carrots, beets, turnips, beans, parsnips (pushing the edge with that one) and lettuce. I even planted some potatoes. The cucumber that we planted in the spring looks like they'll go well into the fall. The tomatoes are languishing. Planted in early may and no tomatoes yet. The removal of a couple of bad tomato plants, beets, turnips and lettuce plants that went to seed provided the new area for reseeding. I also have peppers that have languished all season too. Thinking of pulling them as well. Maybe some more lettuce and radishes there.

Spinach makes a nice addition to your salad greens. Onions can go in as well.

Re: Now What?
Spinach, great idea. I'd do onions, but they hurt my wife's stomach. So unless they are very mild or sweet it's not going to happen.
