You should have heard me raving over all the spaghetti squash in your picture! Whoa!
I bought a pac of seeds to grow the stuff too but ended up not having the trellis space for it this year. What a wonderful harvest, Bravo and Enjoy.
Never had butternut or acorn squash. I bet its all good.

JohnP -- nice harvest there. That would have cost some real dollars if bought at the supermarkets around here.
LM -- you've never had butternut squash or never grown it? It's my favorite!

Spag squash is my fave winter squash! But I have SVB problems when growing it so didn't try this year.

That's right. Never had butternut squash.
May have had acorn once (?).
Only as an adult I found out spaghetti squash even existed. Love it with sauce and grated cheese.
Is there something else you do with it?

Re: Squash harvest
Hope they last as long as they are suppose to. I sold all my acorns at the apple farm, should have kept a couple. The two butternuts we used were made into a butternut/chipotle bisque. The event we took it to ( three day paint the town art fair with 30 painters) had 11 or 12 different soups and ours was rated the best with a butternut pear and blue cheese soup coming in second. I tried that one and thought it was every bit as good as ours. The bad part was that there were no leftovers and all I got was a small, small bowl.

LL, herbed spaghetti squash from Emeril and Spaghetti squash casserole with spinach from somebody but I don't know who. Both really good.

Re: Squash harvest
With sphaghetti squash, I eat it either as is, with butter, or with an actual spaghetti sauce.
Butternut squash is fantastic as a soup. It becomes so creamy people often ask if it has cream or milk in it, but it's just the natural texture once you blend the cooked squash up. I use a hand blender right in the pot. Butternut squash is also very good eaten simply as baked cubes, alone or with a little butter. I'm sure there are other good recipes for it too.
Here's the recipe at epicurious:
http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Butternut-Squash-Soup-with-Ginger-15572
As suggested in some of the comments, I add a teaspoon of curry powder. A sprig of cilantro leaves on top offers a nice color contrast to the vibrantly orange soup.
I've done it with gingered shrimp, as the recipe suggests, but they tend to sink into the soup and disappear.
I've also used the soup as a pasta sauce.
For the liquid, I usually add chicken or vegetable stock, but I've made it with milk and cream before.
I tend to leave the garlic out, but it's good either way.

Re: Squash harvest
Nice looking squash johnp and sanderson. I have never grown winter squash but may try some next year after I review which ones are more resistant to SVB.

Re: Squash harvest
Winter squash are the only ones I grow. My taste buds don't like a lot of complicated recipes for squash. I like the simple butter, salt and pepper and sometimes a little brown sugar.
This year was not a good year for my squash. Had to start over due to slugs killing the first planting so only a couple that were worth harvesting.

Re: Squash harvest
I have an heirloom Butternut Squash that has covered nearly 20 x 15 of ground AFTER climbing up the trellis I rigged for it and has produced dozens of squash. Great year for them and a couple other types but a BAD year for my spaghetti squash :-(
Last year we had 23 of them this year I think 6.
Oh well, good thing we love the butternuts!

Re: Squash harvest
Maybe you'd like the hubbards blended into a soup with the butternuts? I found myself combining butternuts with acorn squash, and the person who didn't like acorn squash never even noticed.

Re: Squash harvest
We did not plant squash this year but had a butternut vie volunteer and grow up and over our grape arbor. Here is the story:
