Indigo Apple Tomatoes
Here's a pic of my first Indigo Apple tomato coming on...started indoors from seed (Baker Creek Seed). Taste tests for this tomato vary, but the color is supposed to be very interesting in the garden (indo to black where sun hits).

Re: Indigo Apple Tomatoes
landarch, there are several kinds of indigo tomatoes these days. I had Blue Indigo last year. They were dark blue and green but the green eventually turned red. The flavor was like a plum. They didn't get the blights and lasted nearly into November in producing so were good that way. But I don't like my tomatoes to taste like plums so I didn't grow any this year. I know, I'm too darn fussy but I want my tomatoes to taste like tomatoes.
I'd be curious to know what yours taste like.

Re: Indigo Apple Tomatoes
My friend is growing a blue cherry tomato. It does indeed look very cool in the garden. Almost like a black olive, but beefier and rounder. The color is so unexpected, it's hard not to stare.

Re: Indigo Apple Tomatoes
reviews of this tomato on Baker Creek Seed's own web page are mixed. People love the color but the taste is questionable: some people ranked the taste very low and would never grow again or recommend to a friend (tasted like a grocery store tomato, tasted mealy, etc.).
I found these seeds late and decided to try...Indigo Apple tested very high in nutrition in a tomato test printed in the Baker Creek catalog. see image below
If the taste is poor I'll certainly pass for next year...too many other great tomatoes to choose from.
