Pressed Cardboard Egg Cartons
She Who Must Be Obeyed (aka, SWMBO) says that I'm showing all the signs of becoming a hoarder because I buy eggs only in the pressed cardboard cartons - none of those styrofoam things in MY house - and save them. I've told her that they will become my no-cost seed starter pots, but she still looks at me funny and shakes her head.
Does anyone else use egg cartons for starting seeds? I don't know where I first saw this. It might have been 50 years ago. I've not used vermiculite or MM for this yet, but I did make up a mix using perlite and sand and loam all those many years ago.

I did it many years ago, but now I prefer a bigger starting cup. 8 oz purchased cups is my preference. Except for tomatos which I like to start in red solo cups.
Saved yogurt cups work great.
I punch a hole in the bottom and cut slits in the sides.

Don't feel bad. I have a drawer full of cardboard tubes for the same purpose. I am beggining to think it might be unnecessary.

I don't use them for starting seeds because the volume of the cups is too small and dries out rapidly. I do rip them up and throw them in the compost pile.

I'm thinking longer than that!
I remember doing this in kindergarten!
Like the others, I prefer starting in a larger container so no up-potting is necessary, other than tomatoes.
