Pappy, what exactly IS red mulch? Our rocks haven't migrated anywhere in 18 years lol!! We bought some of the mulch that's made of old car tires I think it is?  I don't like it at all because the wind blows it EVERYWHERE, and it's expensive. We probably only have about 1/2 of what we laid down a few years ago, the rest is all over our yard lol. Fortunately, we only put down a 8" wide strip along our front yard bed Smile

It's mulch dyed red. I have pea gravel in my landscaping and it hasn't migrated either. I'm leaning towards Pea Gravel. Hey, do it once and you're good to go.

This topic interests me as well.  I am trying to get rid of the quack grass that sneaks along the paths and then into beds.
My mom had pea gravel put on her driveway, a car can get stuck in that stuff and pushing a loaded wheel barrow is hard work and it hurts to kneel on.  Her thought was that it was easy on the feet of her grandkids.  The Icelandic poppies grow through it very well.  I am told that mice find it hard to tunnel through or over so it is good to put around trees and bushes.
Sharp gravel will stay still better and makes a real surface for wheel barrows but is hard on feet and knees.
Mulch breaks down too quickly and then needs to be shoveled into the compost pile to finish and replaced in the paths.  I love walking on it though.  It is cool and soft and inviting to me.
