April Avatar
I am not the official Avatar picker but I thought I would jump the gun and pick my Avatar for April. I picked new for April because I have a new greenhouse with a new garden bench that was so simple to build and a new crop in the greenhouse and new plants under the lights. On the bench is lettuce, kale and spinach picked for salad but right after I took the shot a gust of wind flipped the salad spinner upside down on the ground. I wasn't going to waste that lettuce so I ran around picking up small leaves in the weeds. I did rescue most of them.

Re: April Avatar
Hi John,
Before our last admin there weren't any monthly avatar themes. Since he left, the moderator has been keeping them alive for a bit, but last I heard was not going to promote them anymore. Anyone is always free to change theirs whenever they want, or like you, anyone can simply announce an idea and people are welcome to go with it.
Congrats on the new greenhouse, bench, lights, and crops! Would be nice if you posted a full size picture of your new avatar so we could see that bowl of lettuce. Too bad about the wind! Hope you were able to rescue most of it.

You'll have to wait til April fools day to see what it is .

Re: April Avatar
Does anyone know how to save an avatar in their Profile, so they can pull up an older one or change out, but not have to reinvent the wheel?
Re: April Avatar
Maybe just copy and save it in your computer. I believe the SFG Forum will not save previous avatars.

Hi John..... how about posting some pictures of your new greenhouse. I have got greenhouse fever right now and trying to figure where I could put one.

Re: April Avatar
Bnoles the greenhouse in the avatar is a cattle panel greenhouse I built for about $125.00 and it's the perfect size for me. My other one is 12x14 and is to tall to operate the roof vents and the roof blew off this winter anyway so now it's a potting shed. The bench in the picture was designed, they say, by the father of the environmental movement for his garden. I don't know about any of that but it was sure easy to build. The color I painted it however is the best. We were at Ace looking at color samples and my wife was looking at greens and blues for the perfect color. I was standing around reading the names they give the various colors when I found the perfect garden color. It is called pickled beets.

I love the color - and the name would have sold me on it, too!johnp wrote:The color I painted it however is the best. I wonder if you could post any pictures of your greenhouse. The problem with avatars is that we can not expand them to get a better look
I would love to see more pictures of your greenhouse it is BEAUTIFUL from that shot
thanks

Re: April Avatar
I have tried to post pictures but have not been successful. I saved the instructions and hopefully in about 2 months when I finish closing out my business I will have the time to get serious and learn. One thing you might notice in the back left is a large black item. That is my "Mel always has a container of sun warmed water"container, 2500 gal. just in case.

Re: April Avatar
You did an awesome job on the greenhouse John, thank you for posting the pictures for us. I wonder if I could tackle the construction of one like that. I will certainly mull it over after seeing yours.

Re: April Avatar
AH I see that you used cattle panels, We made one with cattle panels and used the 16 foot length side by side.
Is that what you did? For some reason yours looks bigger. perhaps those windows.
Thanks again

Re: April Avatar
John, You have done a lot of work and it all looks great! The green house, all those boxes and positive thinking with the sitting benches. So, what do the dogs think?
Re: April Avatar
Yes I used 2 cattle panels, 100"+ long by a little less than 8' wide. You fasten the panels down and the walls with fencing staples and the wood is deck screwed together. The door and back panel are the same width, 2 ft.. My silver lab is A number one digger. That's why all the outer squares have pepper stands blocking the beds.
