Mel's new vermiculite!
Hey everyone, front page of squarefootgardening.com has a link:

that leads to a page making available, as a trial run, true COARSE grade vermiculite from a source Mel checked out and approves of. Price is $20.97 for two cubic feet and includes a $5.00 credit toward shipping. As a trial run, though, it may go away or be re-priced at some point, who knows when.
Now I wish I hadn't settled for medium grade vermiculite! This will be a good opportunity for many of us, though. And I'll probably get an extra bag or two myself.

$28.00 for shipping?? or $43.00 for priority?? They also have a $4 handling fee? Wow, even with a $5 discount, that's too much for my wallet!!

Yeah, the medium works well enough. I wish the foundation good luck with that product though.

Wow you're right. I saw it on Firefox and it didn't properly update the shipping cart, but IE explorer shows the shipping stays rock solid at $28/unit even at five units, no discount. So that's $108 on Firefox vs. $217 on IE, quite a difference.

If you don't have a local source, I found this listing. $20.49 for 4 cu ft and $14.99 to ship to my Maryland address. I assume that is from their Danville, IL location and not the one in Sacramento, CA.

coarse vermiculite in Maryland
If you live in the Baltimore region, Meyers Seeds in Baltimore sells bags of coarse horticultural grade vermiculite from their stock. I buy mine in bulk bags of I think 4 cu yds - although I may be mistaken on the size. One bag usually is enough for me though. And you can check out their seed offerings too while you are there. They have a pretty large selection of Maryland region seed offerings and the staff is always very helpful. Just a helpful hint I hope.
