Hello all,
I am going to set up a 42" x 42" raised bed for my daughter to have a flower garden. Here's the thing... I originally was going to use MM in her flower bed. But, after realizing just how expensive MM is when you are starting from square one (pardon the pun), I am thinking I should "invest" that MM in another vegetable bed. From where I see it, flower's just don't need a super-mix to have reasonable success.

I have a Lowe's $25.00 gift card and I found the following Sta-Green Flower and Garden Soil:

http://www.lowes.com/pd_132959-79138-POTFV2SG_0__?productId=3353740&Ntt=sta-green&pl=1¤tURL=%3FNtt%3Dsta-green&facetInfo=

I will need about four sacks (my gift card will be just about enough).

Does anyone have any thoughts about this idea?

I have never used that product but it sound pretty much the same as MG, just cheaper. Your link shows it is rated pretty high but when I went to your local Lowes is wasn't so high. There was another product listed that I have wanted to try but isn't in my store.

What I would suggest is buy a couple of bags of their cheap compost/manure. Then 3 bags of whichever one you choose. Put compost on the bottom and the other on top. You might even have a couple of bucks left for flowers to plant.

Hi chjbr63,

The Lowes website says my local Lowes has Jungle Growth in stock. I like your idea about putting composted manure below. Thanks for your input.

Hey Rooster,

You always amaze me by how "on it" you are with links and information! Thanks for the link that was exactly on point with my situation. Reading the posts in that link has given me a great deal to think about.

It was a recent thread and seemed to fit Wink so I got lucky in finding it.
I'm pretty much sold Mel's Mix for everything. My time is limited and I don't feel like scrounging for all the scientifics of why something may not be doing so well. Mel's Mix just seems to satisfy all my planting needs and that is a money and time saver for me Sigh... Mel's Mix for my daughter flower garden?? 3170584802
