mel's mix
I have obtained my vermiculite, for I think, a very good price of $18 for 4 cu. ft.. And I don't expect to pay a lot for peat moss, but on the compost, I am wondering what will work. I am composting myself but don't know if it will be ready by , lets say March 1, when I would like to start the beds. I can obtain compost from a source that collects leaves and lawn cuttings, for $15 a yard, but there is the issue of pesticides, herbicides, etc that may come with it. I have about a half yard of horse manure sitting in a pile in my yard now. This is partially composted. The bedding is sawdust. I can also go to Home Depot and get the cow manure, which I have bought before, but seems to be a lot of stuff other than manure. I have also seen an ad on craigs list for chicken manure, which may be composted in whole or part. I also have just established a worm factory, but don't expect a whole lot of product before March 1. One thought is to tap into all of these sources. Any ideas on this would be greatly appreciated

I think that you are doing everything right! If you are unsure about your blend of MM look at your local nurseries, Top it off then keep doing what you are doing
