Garden closed, soil inspection
The last two years I have had a lot of unwelcome squash vine borers showing up in my garden. In addition as I was getting the garden ready last fall I found a ton of brown recluse spiders, best I can tell there must've been a nest. Last weekend i pulled out all of my black gold and put it in a bin in the corner. I killed every svb I came across and mixed the soil around quite a bit. I am thinking of building some smaller four foot square boxes, we like squash, cukes, and tomatos, to limit the ability of the bugs to hop from one square to the next. I was also thinking of "sifting" the soil to try and get rid of any remaining eggs or bugs still living in there. On the plus side we found a ton of earthworms living in the soil. I also found the worms boring into the wood frame. questions suggestions welcome.

Re: Garden closed, soil inspection
Tim, were the worms the little red ones about one to three inches long, or were they the great big fat ones up to 12 inches long and 1/2" round?
Re: Garden closed, soil inspection
The worms were long skinny ones, wiggly ones. I killed about 15 slugs living under the boxes. I am building new boxes for next year that will be about two feet off the ground.
