Increasing Height of SFG
I have found that the soil in my SFG has settled significantly - only have about 4". I am thinking of increasing the height of my existing 2X6 sized SFG (which is really only 1.5" X 5.5") by adding another 2X4 on top. Then I can top up the soil and this might also help protect a bit more from weeds. Has anyone ever done this?

Re: Increasing Height of SFG
Hi, welcome to the forum. Your settling is normal, and veggies will still grow. The level will build back up over time as you add more compost when re-planting. If you want to add additional height to your box, why not make it another 2x6, instead of a 2x4, so you'll have a deep box for carrots and potatoes.
Re: Increasing Height of SFG
Can I just add compost to top up my existing soil, or would you recommend mixing up another batch of MM's.

Re: Increasing Height of SFG
Either one would be OK. I always make about 20% more MM for a given box volume when I'm filling it the first time because I know the MM will settle. Some folks like to have extra compost in their mix and make up the difference with more compost.
