ANSFG Paperback vs. Kindle eBook Empty ANSFG Paperback vs. Kindle eBook

Post  twodaend 6/18/2012, 6:16 pm

I'm am trying to decide which version of the ANSFG book I should get. I went to the book store today to take a look at the paperback and boy does it look pretty. However, I'm thinking of getting the Kindle eBook instead to read on my iPhone and Android phone (waiting for the Kindle Fire 2). I'm wondering which format is best and if the Kindle eBook is the same as the paperback, ie. text, pictures, picture captions, picture quality, etc?

Thanks

Get the book.

I have the kindle version - using an app on my tablet. I read most books that way, and I read ANSFG that way.

HOWEVER - once you've read the book there are many things you want to reference quickly. That is not so easy or efficient with the ebook version. Yes, I know about bookmarking - but you can't bookmark everything.

I'm probably going to buy the book version for referencing.

I've got the book version and Nook version. If you had to choose one, get the book. I do enjoy having the Nook version which I can reference from my tablet or android anywhere, but the book is hard to beat. The layout, tables and charts in the book version are much easier to use from the book. Very Happy

I would agree with RAMARKS
I have the kindle and have the darnest time finding things.
I read most of my books on the kindle but this kind of book I would rather have the book
I live quite remote and so do not have anywhere to get books usually so that is how I ended up with the kindle

I like my garden books on paper... I can write notes in the margins, change plans and stuff right there..... and I can photocopy pages like the blank planting chart.

ANSFG Paperback vs. Kindle eBook Empty Re: ANSFG Paperback vs. Kindle eBook

Post  jennifer37918 6/18/2012, 9:53 pm

I have both the paperback and kindle versions. Didn't mean to end up with both, but....

The main difference for me is that the charts are images, so they don't always text search well. And, because the charts are images (I think this is why), some of them are landscape when they should be portrait. When that happens, I have to view the page sideways without turning my iPad or it will adjust it sideways again. Kind of a pain.

I do like being able to search for a specific word and jump right to it, but it works best if the word is fairly unique.

I love having the ANSFG book with me at all times, so I can read and reread anytime I have a few minutes. Or, i can check how many plants to a square while im in the store (from my phone) and buy the right number.

Having the paperback at home is handy when my batteries run low or my tech saviness runs out. And, occasionally a friend asks to borrow the paperback, which is ok since I still have the kindle version.

Overall, it's a matter of how you prefer to read the book. The overall content is the same.

Good luck!

I agree with everyone also; I was actually thinking of posting my recommendation a couple months ago, but didn't, not realizing that many folks find the site before they find the book.... Anyway, I am going to re-purchase the book in paperback. It is just way too much work trying to look things up on my kindle version and if there is one lesson to be taken from Mel's philosophy, it's that gardening should be less work and more enjoyable - so I figure the book should be too! Very Happy

I prefer the book ANSFG Paperback vs. Kindle eBook 889526
There is nothing like sitting out by the garden reading and planning and making notes! I tend to lose notebooks but NOT my book!
And I can look busy if I am trying to ignore grandkids/kids lol..

Post  ahoornik 6/18/2012, 11:17 pm

Hi,

I started with the kindle version after finding the SFG website. Which is what lead me to get a community garden plot. And already I am thinking that for reference it may be handy to have a paper version as well. Even though I bring my ipad around most of the time to shoot the photos of the progress.

I like the being able to make notes and have little marker papers in there so I can open to particular pages quick. I have started making bookmarks in the kindle version but I am not sure if it will work well enough. Also I am still reading through the book, getting closer to the end now Smile

So far my Kindle version has kept me happy. I love that I can grab my phone when I'm away from my Kindle, and still look up something using my "Kindle app". I'm also a fan of "search" for getting to a page. I'm trying to cut down on my clutter, and books everywhere was a big part of that. I'm checking out a single issue of a few garden magazines too, but the format still isn't digital friendly on most. For me the Kindle is working on the book, but magazines are not quite there.

I have the Kindle version, but I've purchased many of my gardening books in paper versions in case the zombie apocalypse happens and I'm unable to charge my iPad and access my eBooks.

Hey, just trying to plan ahead. Smile
