One use for the Pm is to ask a quick question or ask somebody to go to the chatbox for a discussion. When a PM is received, a pop-up window will alert you when you're signed in.
BUT, to be efficient, you need to have the pop-up function in your browser enabled. If you keep pop-ups disabled all the time, you can still enter "https://squarefoot.forumotion.com/" as an exception to the rule.
In Firefox, go to Tools>Options>Content>Block popup windows>exceptions button
Maybe somebody can post how to allow pop-ups in IE
