Should I give up on my snap peas?
I'm not sure if they are going to flower at this point. I planted them in mid-March. The vines keep getting bigger and bigger and they look happy and healthy but I don't have a single blossom and it's getting close to summer. Is it getting to be too hot for them?
If they aren't going to produce I'd really like to pull them and put in my half runner beans. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Suppose the soil is too rich in nitrogen making the vines produce more leaves than flowers? If so, that's what probably would happen to the beans. Experiment: plant a row of beans along the existing peas and, when the beans emerge, decide at that point if the peas should be cut off and allow the beans to use the trellis.

I vote to leave them in. I've had peas produced in 90 degree weather and I'm guessing you're not hotter than that. Sometimes they just take a while to flower, and then, BAM, they do.

Re: Should I give up on my snap peas?
I agree with Elliephant; My snap peas produced for most of the summer last year and grew to be about nine feet tall (my 6'5 husband had to harvest them for me at that point, lol). Just be patient and time will tell. If they don't produce by late next month, I say pull them out and put some bush beans in.

I'm in exactly the same situation - the vines look great but there is not a single flower. I guess I'll wait too...

I'm just north of you in Lebanon, and my peas got their first flower last week. Now there is a ton of them. Give them a little more time if you don't need the squares right away
Re: Should I give up on my snap peas?
Thanks all! Okay, I'll give them some more time. I'm just impatient, I want some peas!

Re: Should I give up on my snap peas?
LOL, I have two big boxes and the whole side of my house! But yes, I'm going to add at least one more box next year
If the boxes weren't so expensive to fill I'd have a bunch, I have to do them one at a time I do already have a bunch of bush beans planted and my pole beans are going in next week hopefully.
