First year SFG--Compost Score or Not????
Good morning! I am plowing full-steam ahead with my first year of SFG! My husband built me six boxes this weekend, and now I'm working on filling them. This morning I'm going to pick up some well-aged compost from a friend that includes a mix of rabbit, chicken and hog manure, along with straw, hay and wood chips. It is over two years old.
My question is: how many 'types' can I count this for compost? I was thinking 3 with all the animal manure in it.
Thanks for your help! I've been lurking for weeks and gleaning much wisdom!!!

between the manures and plant types I would go with what you have...and if you really feel the need to buy some additional compost, look for what may be readily available near you (mushroom, cattle, cotton bur composts available at big box stores). You could also work in some organic fertilizer (fish emulsion, chickity doo doo, Bufaloam, etc.) if you think your soil mix may be light nutrients/ compost.
If you can get some more compost from your friend, try to add your own throughout the summer to have all the needed comost ready for any fall gardening...you can add kitchen scraps, lawn clippings, chopped tree leaves, etc.
