Progress

Inbetween camping trips, I've been working on my SFG. I greet it each day---at least once--checking on the progress of the plantings. Sometimes it seems as though the little sprouts grow before my eyes!

I have lettuce, cabbage, carrots up from seed and have planted the second round of each. The lettuce makes me smile---it's so pretty!!

I have sweet basil, sweet peppers, and parsley settling in after transplanting.

Radishes are poking their little heads through the soil looking for the sunshine.

The marigolds I planted are adding a bit of color.

The sugar snap peas are reaching for the netting via small twig branches (thanks to whoever suggested this) and the cantaloupe from Home Depot seems quite happy.

My one zucchini plant is (perhaps) looking for a mate since I don't know how it will get "Preggers" without it---better plant another two then I can lop off the males (sorry guys).

I planted a Big Boy tomato--on it's side--and have a twig and ladder support for it to climb.

I find it impossible to walk by the lettuce, chocolate mint (well contained) or parsley without nipping off a leaf to munch on!!!

Never before have I been happy to see rain in the forecast.

Now I just have to set up some sort of soaker system....

Just one comment about the zucchinis. They do not actually need a mate, usually the first bloom that goes out is a male and then females, you just need enough blooms so that a male and a female are blooming at around the same time.
(Which I guess with only one plant is harder to do :scratch: )

Zuc and squash plants produce a lot more male flowers than female flowers. They also produce only male flowers at first to attract pollinators. If you are only getting male flowers then you should get some female flowers shortly. Last year I had a problem with pollination and tried to pollinate the female flowers by hand. Whenever I had a female flower bloom there were never a shortage of male flowers blooming at the same time.
