Tricked by the weather...
I admit it... I am one of "those" people... This is my first year trying to garden. I built a nice 4x8 box (and thinking of building 2 4x4 or 1 4x8, opinions??) in the next week or two... But...
On March 20th, it was like summer here in CT. Awesome daytime weather and mild nights... So I planted some spring crops, thinking I could get a jump a week or two early so I had more summer time for my summer crops...
I planted:
4 boxes of snap pea seeds (8 per box)
12 broccoli plants (we love broccoli!!!)
6 lettuce plants (I left spots for more staggered planting)
4 boxes of sweet onion sets (9 per box)
4 boxes of carrot seeds (16 per box)
5 potato cuts in a whiskey barrel
Since the 20th, 4 pea plants have sprouted, 4 onion sets. The broccoli and lettuce, with some row cover love (and a sheet on the night of the hard freeze), have survived with only 2 lettuce leaves turning black.
Should I be concerned that my seeds havent all sprouted? Just how much of a sap am I for planting so early? Should I just dig up my taters and replant later in the season??

I don't know about the taters but the rest will sprout if you keep them moist.

Everything that you planted should come up in it's own time according to the weather conditions. It is rather early for our gardens here in New England so no worries; when the weather begins to warm up, you will want to make sure your mix stays moist, but not sopping wet.

I, too, think you will be fine. As long as the soil isn't too wet (which isn't going to happen on its own, that's for sure ) I think your seeds will germinate, just not quickly. In the back of ANSFG, there is a chart that outlines germination rates at different soil temperatures.
And you do know that there are tons of people like you - who could resist that weather?
I planted tomato seeds, inside, that week. I am banking on the weather being warm and frost-less earlier than usual. So, you see, I, too, am one of "those people" ( ), I'm just flying lower under the radar than you are!
