onion sets and garlic
Hi,
I am in the okanagan zone 5 or 6. When can I plant onion sets? I have some onion seeds started indoors but am hedging my bets and planting sets too.
Also I planted garlic in the fall but I guess they got too wet and rotted. Can I plant more now? Will it still work?
thanks, Kari

Plant sets out about 2 weeks before last frost. When you planted the garlic, did you plant it pointy end up? Did you put a much over the bed? Dig down and see if you can find one of the cloves you planted, if they did rot, plant more now.

I think I planted it correctly as they started to sprout and then it got really cold. I put leaves over them. They are in an above ground box. The tips are soggy and the couple of bulbs I dug around looked soggy too. Any idea what I did wrong? I will replant some garlic this weekend. Thanks

Well, if you are in zone 5 and it has been chilly, it could be they are getting a late start. Did you see any roots on the cloves??This is a good sign. how deeply did you plant? If you had green, even last autumn, there should be some new growth soon .
