Brand, spankin' newbies here with the added twist that we're over the road truckdrivers praying to God that our son and his wife will take care of the garden while we're away. We tried long rows last year but the weeds got away from them while they were out busy graduating from college, getting married, honeymooning and moving to OK. Ya just can't get good help these days. Hopefully, with Mel's plan, there won't be a lot of weeding for them to get behind on. We're going to start with 8-10 4x4x12 boxes. Hopefully, by going 12" deep, we won't have to worry about depth when we want to rotate root crops to a box that formerly contained above ground crops. My husband over builds everything anyway. We're headed home now to begin building boxes and searching for the vermiculite and the composts. Wish us luck!

Welcome Kat!! Sounds like you are on the right track! You will find alot better success with Mel's method! Sounds like you have read the book and are off to a great start. I love spending time at Beavers Bend. Spend some time looking around, there is tons of knowledge in these forum. Make sure you swing by your regional forum for info specific to your area!

Looks like you have a great plan and yes, it will be much easier for those newlywed, graduating kids to deal with. You will find that good MELS MIX
Please keep us posted on your progress, we love pictures too.
